Dr. Frederic T. Schwartz is a neurosurgeon and a clinical professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He also serves as a consultant to the attending physicians’ office for the United States Capitol. He is board certified in neurological surgery and has performed thousands of neurosurgical procedures since the beginning of his career. Dr. Schwartz practices as a George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates neurosurgeon at Chevy Chase Neurosurgery in Chevy Chase, MD. He is affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, Suburban Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Schwartz earned his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed residencies in general surgery and neurosurgery at The Washington Hospital Center and The George Washington University Medical Center. Early in Dr. Schwartz’s career, he was commissioned as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served as the chief of neurosurgery at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, for which he earned an Army Commendation Medal.
Dr. Schwartz has been named a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine, Consumers’ Checkbook Magazine and Castle Connolly. Dr. Schwartz is named one of The Best Doctors in America for neurosurgery and spine surgery, as well as one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumer’s Research Council of America.
Dr. Schwartz has served on the George Washington University School of Medical School Admissions Committee. He has also served on the George Washington University Hospital Adult and Infant Care Ethics Committee since its inception. He has served as the chief of neurosurgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, Chairman of Neurosurgery at the Medical Society of D.C., President of the Jacobi Society and chairman of the Medicolegal Committee for the Medical Society of The District of Columbia.
Dr. Schwartz has served on the board of directors of Metropolitan Health Care, Lt. Joseph R. Kennedy Institute, Physicians Health Plan of Maryland, Mid Atlantic Medical Services and Medical Society Services of the Medical Society of D.C. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The North American Spine Society as well as a member of the Washington Academy of Neurosurgery, the Medical Society of D.C., Montgomery County Medical Society, Maryland Neurosurgical Society and the Jacobi Society.
Dr. Schwartz has published articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, focusing on his clinical interests of brain tumors and spinal disorders. He has also completed numerous presentation on various spinal topics.
